Puja and Meditation for Healing of body, mind and emotions

Medicine Buddha

This is a vajrayana healing practice of Medicine Buddha. During these sessions, there will be a puja followed by meditation based healing. Medicine Buddha healing practice can be understood at both relative and ultimate levels.

At a relative level, Healing Buddha (also known as Medicine Buddha, or in Sanskrit, Buddha Bhaisajyaguru), while he was a Bodhisattva on the path to enlightenment made many aspirations to heal all beings from the torments of diseases. Through the power of this aspiration, his wisdom mind continuously manifests its compassion through healing sentient beings. The purpose of performing the puja is to accumulate merit. In other words, through performing the puja, we can create openness in our minds to receive the blessings of Healing Buddha and then meditate to accomplish healing.
At a deeper level, the healing aspect represented by Medicine Buddha is innate to the primordially pure nature of our awareness. In other words, the healing aspect of Medicine Buddha is primordially perfect within every being. Through the tantric practice of Medicine Buddha, we attune into this healing aspect of our primordially enlightened nature and use this innate potential to cure all diseases of body and mind. Ultimately, Medicine Buddha also represents the healing that takes place as we rest in the primordially perfect nature of awareness.

Healing Buddha Meditation can help in healing physical, emotional and mental ailments. This is particularly effective for diseases arising out of imbalance of elements. It can be used to heal oneself or others. Regular group meditation sessions like this also increases the effectiveness of individual practice. You are also welcome to suggest names of your friends and relatives to whom you would like us to dedicate the healing energy and merit from the session.
There are many Medicine Buddha based healing practices in Buddhism. Out of these, this particular one, called “The Stream of Lapis Lazuli” is a special one, as it is performed from the higher view of unsurpassed tantras. This sadhana was composed by Karma Chagme Rinpoche (Raga Asya) based on the Namchoe space treasure revelations of terton Mingyur Dorje. This is a unique practice of Nyingma tradition and is one of the most effective ones.

Suitability: To engage in this practice with full understanding, an empowerment of Medicine Buddha from Namchoe treasure cycle and oral transmission of the sadhana is required. However, those who do not have these are also welcome to join this session, participate in the prayers and meditation and receive benefit.
